Charlie studied architecture at Kingston University, but he went to sea, sailed across the Atlantic and became a gardener in Surrey.   Then he worked for his blacksmith brother for a while and learnt about wood at Rycotewood where he gained an HND in Furniture Making.  Charlie first worked for Inflate Design in 2002, who gave him part-time work until the foundation of sixixis in 2005.  In 2003 Charlie moved to Cornwall to learn about sustainability at Falmouth College of Arts, where he met Tom and Chris.
